Age four by January 1, 2024 (Tuesday through Friday)
Student/teacher ratio – 8:1
Readiness is the focus for this group of active learners! Hands-on activities, that encourage motor-skills development – to get ready for writing; small group projects – to encourage social skill; problem solving – to enhance critical thinking and cognitive development; emergent reading and writing activities – to make meaning of print and play time – to teach that school is fun. These will be the skills and activities that will build a lifelong love for school for our busy four-year-old students.
Five-Year-Olds
Age five by January 1, 2024 (Monday through Friday)
Student/teacher ratio – 9:1
This class is a bridge from preschool to elementary school. The days will be filled with play, child choice, language development, social and teamwork building, reading readiness and a move toward more complex thinking in the world of mathematics. Classroom activities will be geared to the many levels of readiness among the students. Teachers will guide student learning and gradually move from more child-centered activities to more “formal lessons” to prepare for entry into elementary school. Children do project work and experience walking field trips in our neighboring community. January through April, our fives stay until 2:15 for extended exposure to STEM literacy activities.
