Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Jesus Christ is King of the Universe. There is no higher authority or greater sovereignty than His. May He reign in my heart and yours, enthroned as the Matchless King for all eternity.
As we celebrate this great feast day at the end of Ordinary Time, I wanted to highlight a big change coming our way beginning Monday, December 1: a new daily Mass schedule. First, let’s look at the new schedule and then I’ll share the rationale for the change.
- Mondays – 7AM
- Tuesdays – 7AM and 9:30AM
- Wednesdays – 7AM and 6PM
- Thursdays – 7AM
- Fridays – 7AM and 9:30AM
- Saturdays – 8:30AM
Now for the rationale. Over a month ago, we sent out a survey gauging our parishioners’ interest and participation in daily Mass, wanting to see how we could better serve the parish at large within the limits of having now only two priests. We had a great response, and I thank all of you who shared your thoughts and suggestions.
What came from that survey and from our internal discussions was that there is room for some adaptation. Some Preschool families would come to daily Mass, but it starts too early. Some can only come if Mass were offered later in the evening. Some are so flexible and available that they will come whenever Mass is offered. Others want no change whatsoever.
Taking all these things into consideration, we decided on the schedule above to maximize opportunities for yet more people to participate in daily Mass offerings. Mondays and Thursdays will only have one Mass because those days we only have one priest on campus. Moving the other daily Mass 30 minutes later allows for Preschool families to drop off their children and participate. And having one Mass offered in the evening on Wednesdays gives people who cannot attend any morning Masses the opportunity to do so once a week.
Our task and mission as disciples of Jesus Christ, the Lord and King of the Universe, must be to constantly seek ways of building the Kingdom of God, not just accommodating those of us already settled in it. I hope and pray that this change will be received with understanding and hope.
Long live Christ the King!
All you holy saints of God, pray for us!
Peace in Christ,
Fr. Michael Silloway
