What is Advent by Candlelight?
Advent by Candlelight (ABC) is an evening of preparation for the Advent and Christmas seasons with wonder and a focus on Christ. Christ, our greatest gift, is a model for giving ourselves to others. As a hostess, your gift to friends, and family is the gift of sharing a table for an evening of fellowship, food and inspiration. Your table can be as elaborate or a simple as you want it to be. Below are some guidelines to help you.
- Invite women to sit at your table. Each table accommodates 8 – no more than 8. Consider asking someone to co-host. There will be some women who express a desire to attend but have not received an invitation. If you have a space or two you’d like help filling, just let me know and we can connect you with them.
- Set a menu and you can either provide the whole meal yourself or ask each guest to contribute a part of the meal. (Most attendees will WANT to bring something)
- Decorate your table with tablecloth and decorations done in Advent colors of purple and pink. (Please no red, green, Santas, etc.) (120” round tablecloth reaches the floor, 108” leaves about 12 inches from the floor) Real candles are allowed but be sure nothing flammable is near them. Votives are probably the way to go.
- A 60 x 30 table will be available for you to place your food/serving items on. You will want to cover this as well. This extra table is for you to serve from NOT A BUFFET TABLE – there are too many women to have everyone up and walking around. (120”x90” tablecloth covers to the floor)
- Your table setting should include plates, cups and saucers (or mugs), flatware, napkins, water glasses, a coffee carafe and a pitcher for water. Tea bags and hot water, decaf coffee, water, sweeteners and cream will be provided. You may serve wine.

- Power – if you plan on bringing something that requires an AC outlet, be sure to bring an extension cord as outlets may not be precisely positioned by your service table.
A check for $80 from each hostess is due by November 22nd made out to ASCC WOMEN’S GUILD. Please mail to:

Please do not send individual checks or cash from the ladies you invite. It is too much for me to keep track of. Please just collect the $10 from each attendee you invite to reimburse yourself.
