Padre’s Points to Ponder with Deacon Chrystian Bis – 7/10/26
This Fourth of July, I got to experience the famous Dunwoody 4th of July Parade. I got to drive Father Michael’s decorated Jeep, trying to balance looking at the crowds and making sure I stayed on course. It was an incredible experience, seeing how many people came out to celebrate, and especially how many people supported All Saints, as Father Michael, the Scouts, the Knights, and me as we went past in the parade. It was amazing to see the whole city work together to make such an event happen.
That experience inspired me as I write today, with a request to all of us who call All Saints our Home. This week, I wanted to reach out and ask us to consider assisting All Saints during our Masses. As you may have seen, it is not usually just the priest who makes the Mass happen alone. Our lectors, sacristans, servers, ushers, greeters, seminarians, and deacons all work together to help make the experience of Mass what it is. Many of you already assist us in one of these ministries, and I’m truly grateful for your help.
Sacristans help prepare the Mass, by lighting candles, preparing the chalice, and ensuring everything else is ready for the Mass. Lectors read out announcements and the First and Second Readings during Mass. Ushers ensure everyone is welcomed to the parish, and that everyone who needs it, receives communion. Servers assist the clergy during the liturgies. Personally, I was always a big fan of being a sacristan. It’s quiet and meditative behind the scenes work that makes an important difference.
You could help out during Sunday Masses, or, if you are a daily Mass attendee, also lend your talents there. Both are greatly needed and welcomed, especially during the daily Masses. For most of these ministries, the time commitment would only be arriving a few more minutes before Mass.
If you or someone you know has any interest in a particular ministry, please consider reaching out! You can find a full list of our liturgical ministries at: https://allsaintsdunwoody.org/ministries/
If you have interest in helping, but are not quite sure yet what to do, feel free to send me an email with any questions, at deaconchrystian@allsaintsdunwoody.org. Or just let me know before or after any Mass.
Thank you for all your support thus far!
